Portraiture is the art of capturing not the person in front of your camera, but the human being inside them. When you’re able to spend some time with a subject, before the camera is raised, you’re much better able to see that person inside of them, and help them draw it out for the camera to capture. This means first and foremost, you must make the people in front of your lens comfortable, and when you add that with the creative vision in the photographer’s mind, sometimes magic can be captured.
