Maybe this one should come with a warning: these images just might make you a bit queazy. While in the Mekong delta region a few weeks ago shooting these images, I was drawn over to a neighbors house because I thought I saw something through the trees and across a small canal. Sure enough, my eyes weren’t deceiving me, and they actually saw a pile of rats strewn about the ground, and a young man selecting a few to put in a plastic bag for a boy to take away. Though I see these little creatures nearly everyday in Saigon, they scurry by so fast, and they’re out of sight and mind before you know it. But these weren’t going anywhere. The man emptied the traps he had set near his home, and was now preparing them for sale and dinner. The meat is actually somewhat of a local delicacy. Regardless, I don’t think there’s enough money in Vietnam to encourage me to try it. To be honest, I was pretty grossed out by what I was seeing, but it was just too interesting not to shoot. After sometime of working on the images, I think they’ve lost a bit of their original sting. Here they are. Enjoy!!
