A few days ago, some of the late night ebay purchases I’ve made over the past few months finally made their way to me here in Vietnam. This package carried in it three new cameras; a Minolta 35mm (really nice, images coming soon) and two very old, very cheap Kodak Brownies. Since there’s really not many things that can break in these simple machines, they were supposed to be still in working order, so I had to find out. I loaded the Brownie Hawkeye with a roll, and headed out for a little drive on a cloudy Saigon day with my lovely girlfriend to act as model. Sure enough after a day at the lab, a little batch low-fi brownies were baked up, and I do mean low-fi! Any attempt to delve into the image, reveals grain and emulsion to the max, but that’s part of the fun, right? I don’t think the images need any further explanation, so scroll on down and see how they strike you…
